Introducing your Springfield Excitement!

The Simpsons had an terrific episode last Sunday. Here's the plot: First, Mr. Burns acquires a professional basketball franchise (the Austin Celtics) from that billionaire cowboy and moves them to his hometown of Springfield. Soon after he decides the only way to bring in the fans is with a brand new arena at the taxpayer's expense. So far, awesome. Next, the noble townspeople hold a referendum on building this "decadent monument to excess". Behold as the liberal naysayer is crushed by the awesome power of #1 draft pick and dominant Ketchikan center, Mok Mu:

Kiss Cams? Draft picks?? This debate is over. Make way for the new home of the "Springfield Excitement"!

Almost as good as "Energy" (Darnell's choice) but not quite as powerful as "Thunder" if you ask me. Singular is in. And I dig the blue and orange jerseys. Here's the scene on opening night, which was no doubt the greatest night in Springfield history:

"Welcome to the American dream, a billionaire using public funds to construct a private playground for the rich and powerful!"

Doesn't look like they won, but that's cool. Everyone's just pumped to have a team. They've got an exciting young nucleus and a potential superstar in Mok Mu. Not to mention an energized fanbase with impressive bee-attendance figures nearing 500,000. Hopefully they can sustain it as the season progresses.

Haven't watched Simpson's in years. After this excellent spoof on my favorite NBA disaster, I'm gonna' have to start tuning in again. Love to see a cartoon clarify reality for those poor, blind, Oklahomans.

Wow, art imitating life. Wonder if one of the writers is a Sonics fan.

A commenter on ESPN's True Hoop noted that Matt Groening went to Evergreen State College in Olympia, so the episode could be "The Simpson's" creator's dig at the NBA about the Sonics fiasco.

Best television show ever, once again the Simpsons prove why they have the best writers and not afraid to go after anybody on either side of the aisle.

Okies are easy targets, but that doesn't take away from excellent commentary.

To the Charmer who called *everyone* in my entire state "poor, blind Oklahomans".

I am SO SICK of the few (most people there are pretty great people - you, probably not so much) citizens of Seattle who assume that all Oklahomans voted YES regarding paying this hideous tax (which ONLY OKLAHOMA CITY has to pay, for those of you clearly to lazy to do two seconds of research)that helped bring your lame, pathetic excuse for a professional basketball team to my beautiful state.

You might want to check a map. Oklahoma City is one of many cities we have, here in flyover land. Land of many good, talented, successful people (many of whom I'm sure are on your iPod or your TV or this stage in NYC they have on a street called "Broadway").

Almost 40% of Oklahoma City - again, the ONLY CITY IN OKLAHOMA ALLOWED TO VOTE REGARDING THE FORMER SONICS, voted NO. No to a tax raise that provides millions of dollars to the worst team in the NBA. 90% of us can't even afford tickets to their "games" - and not because we are poor and live in teepees and ride horses to work. Because the tickets are priced so high, only the very richest can attend. The same folks who brokered this back-room, criminal situation.

I'm sure you've stopped reading by now, but hear this: WE DIDN'T WANT THEM. Please! Take them back!

And for the classy person who said "Okies are easy targets"? The term "Okies" is a derogatory term, coined by John Steinbeck. You might have heard of him from grown-ups. He wrote books. We are not "Okies". We are Oklahomans, and frankly, you're pissing this one off. "I live on a coast, therefore I am cool and know all!" Hahahha!

Love,
Eyes Wide, Wide Open in Oklahoma.

PS - "Poor blind Oklahomans" person - you misspelled "The Simpsons". But hey, you're from where they made Grunge! You are superior! I'd better go milk a cow. Oh wait - I live in the City! No cows. Dang.

Hey Eyes Wide Open in OKC: I'll concede your point that not everyone voted yes. I now hate 40% less of OKC than before, but I still hate most of you.

"tickets are priced so high, only the very richest can attend."

A great game against the Warriors is coming up with ticket prices around $2. I'm sure that will drop to $1 as the game gets closer.

I'm sorry to comment off the topic of the post here, but I wanted to offer you a proposition from one Thunder Blogger to another. I run another Thunder Blog at www.thunderinokc.com and am trying to get together a network of Thunder Bloggers to help bolster traffic, comments, and subscriptions to all of the sites in the network. Its hard to explain in a few words, but I'd really appreciate if wouldn't mind giving up a few minutes of your time to see what I'm trying to put together. Please visit http://www.thunderinokc.com/introducing-thunder-blog-network-join-now/ to see what its all about and if you would like to join. I'm an experienced blogger who has done this with other niche sites to great success for all involved and thought it could really work for us. Thanks, and have a great day, and Happy Holidays!

Naturally, the only successful Okies are the athletes, musicians, and actors with the intelligence to leave the state.

Introducing your OKC Excrement!

Mr Baker said...

Burns was tossed by billionaires over the wall seperating the billionaires from the millionaires he was greeted by a slack-jawed lacky milloinaire that introduced himself as an owner of an NHL team, causing Burns to scream.

Bennett has given OKC the gift of complete strangers hating OKC, had it reallybeen about a great thing for the citizens the Hornets would be there. But it isn't about you, and most people outside of OKC and parts of Seattle know that we both got screwed in different ways.
Hopefully he will sell the franchise to somebody there that isn't like him.
The NBA fucked up having that guy as an owner.
